In Österreich: Adoptivkinder haben ab ihrem 14. Geburtstag das Recht, ihre Akten einzusehen, auch ohne Begleitung Erwachsener.
In Südafrika: Adoptivkinder haben ab ihrem 18. Geburtstag das Recht auf Akteneinsicht.

Soziale Aspekte

Offenheit im Hinblick auf historische, kulturelle und ethische Aspekte des Herkunftslandes, die Vorgeschichte des Adoptivkindes und seiner gesamten biologischen Familie ist eine wichtige Voraussetzung für das Gelingen einer Adoption.
Von Adoptiveltern wird erwartet, dass sie in der Lage und bereit sind, dem Kind seine Lebensgeschichte zu erzählen, es bei der Verarbeitung zu unterstützen, Hilfestellung zu geben und die Herkunftseltern in das Leben des Kindes und der Adoptivfamilie mit einzubeziehen.
Adoptivkinder sollen in ihren Adoptiveltern Ansprechpartner für alle Lebenslagen finden, auch und ganz besonders zu Themen, die die Biografie und die Adoption betreffen. Hier wird von EfKÖ Hilfestellung für Adoptivwerber*innen angeboten: Vorbereitungskurse, Seminare, Vorträge, sowie für Adoptiveltern: Reflexionsgruppen, Gespräche im Rahmen der Post-Placement-Berichte und individuelle Beratung.

In Austria

As soon as they turn 14, adoptive children are entitled to access their records, also without company of an adult.

In South Africa

Adoptive children have the right to access their records as soon as they turn 18.

Social aspects

For an adoption to be successful it is crucial to be be open with regards to historic, cultural and ethnic aspects of the home country as well as the child’s background and his/her entire biological family.

Adoptive parents are expected to be able and willing to tell a child about his/her biography, to support him/her when processing, provide assistance and to include the biological parents in the child’s life and the adoptive family.

Adoptive children should have adoptive parents who they can talk to about everything, specially about subjects concerning their biography and adoption. Here EfKÖ offers help to adoption applicants (preparation classes, seminars, lectures) and adoptive parents (discussion groups, discussions when the post-placement reports are produced and individual counselling).
